www.youtube.com

sakumichael-local-runner.hatenablog.com

Good luck!

Monthly Report 2021/3

f:id:sakumichael:20210402133804p:plain

Hello, everyone!

April. A new season has arrived. It's getting quite warm, although the nights are still chilly at times. My apartment building is located along a row of cherry blossom trees, so I enjoyed a pleasant hanami run.

↑The photo above is of my dog.

Then I found a video.

www.youtube.com

Just by looking at the thumbnail, I don't have a good feeling about it. To summarize the contents of the video

  • Heavy exercise and sunburn increase reactive oxygen species and cortisol.
  • Too much of these will cause the body to oxidize and age, leading to depression and disease.
  • Intense exercise is defined as running at a speed of 12km/h or faster.
  • Running once a week for about an hour is good for your health.

It means that all normal runners are doing something bad for their health. Does that mean it's healthier to be fat and not exercise? I don't like this theory at all. Well, there's no point in getting angry, so here's how to deal with it.

  • Take antioxidants in your diet. Specifically, protein, vitamin ACE, and minerals.
  • UV protection. Clothes, sunglasses, sunscreen.

Well, that's pretty normal. You're hurting your body, so you should take proper nutrition. I guess I'll just have to put sunscreen on my face. Anyway, I'm getting to the age where I'm starting to worry about these things. Good grief.

Let's go racing on a daily basis

The marathon season is in its final stages. And tomorrow, April 3, I will run a full marathon. It's been a little over a year since the new corona pandemic started. I've participated in two half marathons, but this is my first full marathon in 14 months. I enter five or six full marathons every season, so this season has been really unusual. Well, a lot has happened in the past year, but I'm determined to give it all I've got.

I was able to run the half marathon 10 days ago in about 90 minutes, and according to VDOT, I should be able to run in the single digits for 3 hours, so I'm going to try to run 3:10 (4'30/km pace) (a PB if I can achieve it).

The difference between regular training and racing

As I mentioned above, this month I participated in a race for the first time in a while.

sakumichael-local-runner.hatenablog.com

As I wrote in my last blog, it was tough (what a poor vocabulary!). I think the intensity of the workout, whether I was alone or with friends, was enough to convince me that I would never push myself this hard in practice. I think there are several reasons why I can push myself so hard in a race.

  • Records are kept. In other words, I'm competing against my past self.
  • In addition, the presence of other runners around me. In addition, the presence of other runners around you, whether you like it or not, drives you to increase your pace.
  • (Even though it's not a full marathon, I've built up my body to a certain level before the race.

This is a big difference from my normal training. In summary, I would define a race as a time when you can use your conditioned body to run with an eye on the record and the runners around you, so that you can exert your running ability to the limit.

What happens when you participate in races regularly in your normal training flow?

I consistently run four to five times a week, or about 200 to 250 kilometers a month. It's safe to say that running has become a part of my daily life. But that doesn't mean that every time I run, I am practicing to improve my running ability. In short, the content of my training is not up to the level of running ability needed to achieve my goal. In order to improve my running ability, it is important to know the intensity of the exercise, that is, how far I can push myself to the limit of my running ability in practice.

In the category of practice, whether alone or with friends, you can't build up your body and mind to the same level as in a race, and you can't push yourself to the very limit. My participation in races has decreased drastically in the past year due to Corona, so I'm starting to forget the days when I used to participate in races every month, but I think my body and mind have gotten stronger with each race. I'm participating in a full marathon tomorrow for the first time in a long time, and as I write this blog, I'm becoming convinced that my inexplicable anxiety stems from the fact that I haven't pushed myself as hard in races.

That's why I've decided to participate in at least one or two races every month during the off-season. I can't run a full marathon in the middle of summer, but I'd like to run races as an alternative to paced runs and long runs to see if my running ability improves. And I want to achieve sub-three by the end of 2021. So, let's get out there and race!

  • Finished the month with 224km, which is a good return considering I only managed to run about 100km in February due to health problems. However, I don't think my speed and stamina are back to the level they were before I took a break.
  • I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do this, but I'm sure I'll be able to do it.

  • This is a video that introduces the Tabata method of training, aside from the comedy between two run-tubers. He is a top trainer, so he knows how to train very effectively. He's a top trainer, so he knows how to train effectively.
  • I think it works really well if you do this after you've done some point training like pace running. I think I'll try it at least once a week in the off-season.

See you soon.
